Our Approach

The Rowan Learning Trust was established with a core belief that when schools work together they are able to accelerate school improvement and deliver even better education and outcomes for all members of our community. By bringing together committed and talented staff and leaders, we can share expertise and support each other on our improvement journey. Collaboration across the schools is an expectation that means we can offer a greater number of opportunities for our learners and our staff to “maximise their potential”.

As an organisation we firmly believe that our leaders – headteachers, senior and middle leaders as well as governors - are the best people to make sure that our schools thrive. Operating on the principle of earned autonomy we want our successful schools to have every possible freedom to determine the education they offer to meet the needs of their learners and the local community that they serve.

Our schools are equal partners in The Rowan Learning Trust, sharing and upholding our vision, ethos and aspirations.  The Headteacher Reference Group helps to shape the vision of the Trust as well as transforming that vision into reality.  This group also provides a collegiate sounding board for headteachers to share problems and posit solutions.

We have a strong and effective central services team giving the schools a means to remove business related tasks allowing headteachers to focus on their particular areas of expertise – educating people. By pooling some of our resources and keeping administrative costs as low as possible, we are able to invest the maximum money possible into the classroom and front-line teaching.

We have high expectations and aspirations for our learners, our staff and our Trust. We foster an ethos of openness, collaboration, mutual respect, support and challenge. We want to grow our Trust because we know that every school has something unique to contribute to our learning community, and we expect all schools to participate in making the MAT outstanding in the broadest sense of the word.
