Becoming a Governor...
Thank you for your interest in becoming a governor at the Rowan Learning Trust schools.
The Rowan Learning Trust is a multi-academy trust of eleven schools based across Wigan, Knowsley, Bury, Lancashire and Cheshire West & Chester. We are proud to have a diverse group of seven primary schools, three secondary schools and one AP Academy. We are an education charity with our schools working collaboratively, as one entity, to improve and maintain high educational standards across our whole organisation.
The role of a governor is to support and challenge the running of the school, working with the Headteacher and other leaders, to ensure that the school is operating effectively in all respects. The membership of local governing bodies provides an opportunity for local stakeholders to be represented, e.g. parents/carers, staff and other people in the community.
Governors play a hugely important role in maximising the potential for every young person and making sure that they are given the best educational offer and experiences.
The core functions of a Local Governing Committee are:
To ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
Hold leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and it's pupils
Oversee the financial performance of the organisation and make sure it's money well spent
We are looking for governors who can make a positive difference in the lives of our pupils, families, colleagues and communities in line with the Trust's vision, mission and values.
The Trust are seeking individuals that can offer expertise and experience in any of the following areas:
Business
Education/teaching
Finance and accounting

Health and safety
